End-User Panel Presentation and Q&A. A panel of diverse social media users with disabilities, who will reflect on positive and negative experiences they have had with social media, and hopes for the future.
10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Coffee Break
10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Lightning Talks
Workshop attendees will give brief (2-3 minute) presentations of their position papers.
12:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Lunch at Austin Taco Project
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Design Process and Implementation Challenges Panel
Social Media Company Representatives and Q&A. People working on accessibility at various social media companies (Facebook, Snap, and LinkedIn) will discuss how they think about accessibility issues, plans they have, challenges they face in implementing them, etc.
3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Breakout into Small Groups
Attendees will break out into smaller groups based on themes emerging from the earlier presentations. Groups might be organized around particular technologies (e.g., automated captioning tools), particular constituencies (e.g., people with motor disabilities that impact their photography skills), and/or particular action items (e.g., advocacy and activism to affect change). Group members will begin to brainstorm and discuss their theme and the challenges around that.
3:30 – 4:00 p.m.: Coffee break
4:00 – 5:30 p.m.: Open Challenges and Future Research Directions Breakout Session
Groups will work on developing a short presentation (4-5 minutes) on their theme, and detail open challenges and future research directions. This will be shared on the website after the workshop.
The session will conclude with sharing and discussion from each group through a brief (4-5 minute) presentation.
